The rhythm of the tides, influenced by the phases of the Moon and Sun, has long been described as the ocean’s breath. Just as harbor entrances were once lit by Tidal Lights, guiding sailors to safe navigation, we too can find our direction in the flow of life’s phases.
In the ebb and flow of daily life, it’s easy to feel lost in a Sea of Chaos—our bodies, just like the tides, experience bursts of energy followed by moments of rest and renewal. At Tidal Light Yoga, we honor these natural rhythms, meeting you exactly where you are, without judgment or frustration. Our philosophy is simple: Life is hard; Yoga shouldn’t be.
Whether your goal is to stand a little straighter, bend down to touch your toes, or simply feel better in your body, that’s where we start. Through personalized guidance, Kate will help you navigate your path to wellness, one breath at a time. Tidal Light Yoga focuses on centering the body by cultivating a personal connection to Breath, Body, and Light—helping to calm the chaos and restore balance in your life.

My road thus far has reflected John Ocaya’s quote above - mountains lead to valleys, streams lead to oceans, and rainbows lead to self discovery. Namaste!! I'm Kate McCombs, creator of Tidal Light Yoga.
My journey began as the first of three kids, moving with my family to different communities in Iowa. I found my foundation to be blessed, and burned, from different influences from those people and places. These burns helped to shape me into a person dedicated to the Acceptance of Diversity and a be a Safe Place for those without a voice.
In college, while studying psychology, sociology and anthropology - I was introduced to world cultures, religions and philosophies. I found myself called to practice meditation, the act of turning inward to deepen the relationship with yourself; and breath work. These new views lighted my path, allowing me to explore true self acceptance, learning to embrace the world on a global scale, and strengthen my internal light which is connected to the universe, and all that exist within.
As a classroom educator, my path guided me to diverse classrooms - both in the United States and abroad. While abroad, I found a love for TaiChi and Qigong; the concept of Mindful Movement, and found the power of Pranayama, breath work. The diversity of former students taught me that we are all hear to learn from each other; despite age, gender, race or financial status.
In 2010, a spinal injury, left me with limited mobility and immense pain; while a reaction to a medication fueled my weight gain. I found myself depressed, filled with shame and self doubt. Who knew this part of the journey was going to be so important! Once again, I turned inward and focused on the concept of Mindful Movement, Meditation and Self Acceptance. Braving the world’s judgement, I added new means of movement - Yoga, Water Therapy, and Pilates - helping heal my body and guide me back to Self Acceptance.
With over 20+ years of self practice, I made the decision to embrace being a yoga instructor in 2022, completing my 200 YTT. I’ve continued my education with Pilates reformer, pelvic floor health, joint health, yoga for all modalities, body positivity, and many more.
Blending my years of practice with a variety of continuing education, my style is gentle and mindful; adaptive for all modalities, and a safe place for everyone. Filled with positive feedback, unwavering encouragement, and shared giggles.
Yoga will meet you exactly where you are today, it holds no judgment - even if today looks different from yesterday day. I believe that Yoga is a personal journey, combining movement and breath as we turn inward - ever growing that internal light.
I truly believe my whole life has been guided to do this work. I look forward to seeing you on the Mat!
Off the mat, Kate can be found with her husband, Denver; and their three dogs. Enjoying bicycling, throwing darts and traveling.
